M. Nisar Shekhani, chairman Site Association of Industry (SAI), has suggested to Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi to form "alternative resolution committees" in lines with those formed by the Central Board of Revenue for each zone of electric consumers to speedily resolve the disputes between the consumers and the power utilities.
Hailing the statement of the Federal Minister for Water and Power in which "Jatoi vows to get all federal taxes on power bills abolished", Shekhani said, "the menace of power theft is instrumental in excessive billing on the honest electricity consumers, who pay the bills regularly."
He said: "The minister has correctly judged that to curb power theft and Kunda connections, strong and concerted efforts in conjunction with the Government of Sindh and, specifically, the IGP Sindh, are required."
Nisar Shekhani said: "Inclusion of additional surcharges in the bills is really a burden on the consumers in the KESC network and particularly industrial consumers whose production cost is rising unnecessarily and making them in-competitive in local as well as international markets."
The Site Association has also welcomed the suggestion of the minister to form an inspection team comprising members from different walks of life to check the performance of the power utility.
