National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has warned a private housing society in the federal capital to shun unlawful activities for getting power connections and asked it to sign MoU with Islamabad Electric Supply Company for legalising the process.
Iesco spokesman in a statement issued here on Thursday said that the distribution authority is bound to provide connections to the residential and commercial units of Soan Garden housing society after fulfilment of all legal requirements in this respect.
The Company also clarified media reports that power body is not interested to provide connections to Soan Garden and has put the matter into cold storage for the last seven years.
Iesco spokesman added that the delay in provision of power connection to the said housing society was just because of its involvement in illegal activities.
Iesco had earlier registered FIR against Soan Garden in 1996 by the Army Monitoring Team when it was found guilty of violating Nepra Act getting electricity connections for 20 residential units on commercial basis without approval of the Iesco, he added.
Brigadier Shahbaz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Iesco has already pledged that we are ready to give connections to 20 houses in the Soan Garden, provided the society signs an MoU with the Authority.
The Spokesman has accused the society management of indulging not only in providing illegal electricity connections to 20 houses in association with Wapda staff but also failed to meet pre-requisites of the Iesco for this purpose.
Nepra has directed the Iesco to keep on taking necessary legal action against the Soan Garden management for its involvement in stealing electric polls, transformers and conductors.
Iesco has warned the public to check the credentials of phony housing societies before getting plots there. There are at least five housing societies whose cases are lying pending with the authority for not fulfilling legal requirements for power connections.
