An accountability court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Hakim Ali Zardari, father in law of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, praying to the court to acquit him from the reference against him and his wife.
The petitioner contended that the reference in question was filed only to victimise him politically.
He said that charges levelled in the reference are fake and contrary to the facts. He prayed to the court to send the reference back to the referring authority for being not maintainable.
The special prosecutor contended before the court that the reference in question was filed after thorough investigation. He submitted that all the charges levelled against the accused are correct.
The court, after hearing both the sides, dismissed the petition.
The accused has been facing the charges of getting a plot in Islamabad by using his influence.
Moreover, another accountability court granted physical remand of Javed Mehmood Sheikh former Chief Executive of English Leasing Company till September 25.
Earlier, the special prosecutor requested the court to extend physical remand of the accused, as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials want to interrogate him further. The court accordingly passed orders and rose for the day.
The accused has been facing the charges of misappropriation of public funds worth millions of rupees.
Meanwhile, another accountability court recorded the statement of prosecution witness in a reference against Saeed Zafar, a former IT Commissioner and adjourned the proceedings till September 18, for recording the statements of prosecution witnesses.
The accused has been facing the charges of corruption and making illegal assets in excess of his income.
