Punjab government has released Rs 90 million for the establishment of industrial zone for tanneries at Sialkot. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Friday that the proposed industrial zone for tanneries would be developed on a 300-acre of land on Sialkot-Sambrial road.
The step was being taken for reducing the pollution load caused by the ill-planned establishment of tanneries in and close to Sialkot.
As many as 248 tanneries of different sizes were functioning of which nine large, 79 medium and 160 small tanneries were functioning in and close to Sialkot.
The work on the project would be carried out in near future and with its completion all tanneries would be shifted in the tanneries zone, sources added.
