Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) would make arrangements to print literature on Pakistani tourist places in different foreign languages and distribute it through tourist information centres, Pakistan Missions and the PIA offices for the information of tourists.
This was decided on Thursday in a meeting of the PTDC officials with the heads of the Provincial Tourism Organisation held here under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Tourism, Sumera Malik.
PTDC Managing Director Malik Mohammad Habib Khan briefed the meeting members that the literature on major cities of Pakistan and Northern Areas in English, French, German, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic languages will be published to develop an effective common promotional and marketing strategy for tourism in the country.
The State Minister for Tourism encouraged the Provincial Heads to submit their proposals for the uplift of domestic tourism.
The Minister was apprised that the PTDC had been given limited budget by the government to carry out the promotional activities during the current fiscal year.
The meeting members asked for a comprehensive guide book on Pakistan, and all the corporations are requested to provide written material with digital photographs of their respective provinces and northern areas to incorporated in the guide book provincial-wise.
The meeting was informed the PTDC was in process to make a new documentary film on Pakistan on digital format, adding that the master print of the film would be provide to all the Provincial Corporations, which they could reproduce on VHS/CDs.
The PTDC invites local and foreign journalists, travel writers and media personals every year to promote image of Pakistan.
There should be a joint promotional advertisement released on special occasions in the local and international print/electronic media, the meeting decided.
The PTDC organisers participation in the local and international fairs, seminars and conferences every year would be held, the meeting finalised.
It was suggested that all the Provincial Tourism Corporations (PTCs) and the PIDC should jointly organise domestic tourism conventions either in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and Islamabad.
All the PTCs should introduce special economic tour packages for promoting domestic tourism, the meeting member informed the State Minister adding, the PTDC and the PTCs should provide maximum discounted rates on booking of their properties viz hotels, motels and transportation.
The Minister took serious notice of the dispute between the PTDC and Sindh Tourism Development Corporation on Keenjhar Lake Resort, and ordered to resolve it with mutual understanding and in the best interest of both the corporations.
The government of Balochistan would be contacted to support for vacating the PTDC land at Gadani or in lieu of a suitable land may be made available to the PTDC either in Quetta or in Gwadar. A formal request had been sent by the PTDC to the government of Balochistan in that regard, the PTDC officials said.
PTDC Deputy Managing Director Asfar Shafqat, Joint Secretary Ministry of Tourism Sammi-ul-Haq, DMD administration and planning Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi also presented the proposals for revamping the PTDC department.
