A 50-member delegation of Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap), led by its Vice-Chairman Muhammad Anwar Mianoor, attended the seminar on "Production technology of the rice", organised by Engro Chemical (Pakistan) Limited in Badin district.
The chief guest at the event was Reap's former Chairman Abdul Rahim Janoo.
The Reap delegation also visited the rice fields of the area, while the host DIG Farooq Amin Qureshi warmly received the delegation and apprised them of the latest status of the rice crop in the area.
Anwar Mianoor, speaking on the occasion, thanked Engro Chemical and the host for their hospitality, saying that among all cereal grains, the rice stood unique and interest and priorities of different sectors of the rice industries varied according to their own interest.
He said the Engro Chemical (Pakistan) Limited and the Reap were the organisations with different modus operandi but with common goal, which was growth of healthy crop, and that common aim had brought them together on the platform to share experiences with each other.
The Reap Vice-Chairman said that Reap was ready to extend all what was required for the betterment of the rice crop and the trade in the best interest of Pakistan, growers, millers and the traders.
Chief guest Abdul Rahim Janoo announced that he would organise free eye camp in the area where the local population would be provided all treatment, including operations by the renowned eye surgeons, free of cost.
Rahim Janoo also suggested to DIG Farooq Amin Qureshi to form a committee and work out requirement of loan required for the rice cultivation and approach the Reap.
The Reap would make all efforts to meet the requirement and, in return, the farmers would have to sell their crop to the Reap members at the current market rate, he added.
It was decided in the seminar that a similar event would be held here next month that would be presided over by the Sindh Chief Minister, and prominent personalities of the rice sector will be invited.-PR
