National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Saturday said readmission of Pakistan in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA)in Toronto, Canada, was "an acknowledgement of the credible democratic, parliamentary system of Pakistan."
In a telephonic interview with APP, he said the CPA had suspended the membership in 1999, and the IPU had recently restored Pakistan's membership and recommended readmission of Pakistan as full-fledged member of CPA, after necessary scrutiny of a special committee appointed for this purpose.
The parliamentary delegation was led by Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro and comprised Speaker National Assembly and speakers of the four provincial assemblies, besides Senators and MNAs.
