Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) has secured a membership of International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC), a supreme international body in this field.
It has opened the way for the PNAC to participate in the General Assembly and standing committees meetings of ILAC thus contributing in the international efforts and remaining updated in the accreditation field.
PNAC, an autonomous organisation of Ministry of Science and Technology, will constitute a team of experts to participate in these meetings and pave the way for signing mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) with other member accreditation bodies of potential trading countries to increase bilateral trade.
The membership will help PNAC in its recognition at international level and facilitate the exports of Pakistan in the new and emerging world trade order.
It is worth mentioning to note that the WTO agreements lay emphasis on harmonisation of conformity assessment procedure and the role of recognised accreditation bodies is very important in the international trade.
Since the government is putting emphasis on export enhancement to earn foreign exchange and uplift the living standard of the common people, the recognition of PNAC at international level will assist the government in achieving this goal.
To secure the membership of ILAC, the PNAC has to complete a lot of formalities in accordance with the international requirements, such as preparation and implementation of quality manual working procedure and accreditation of laboratories. The council has completed all the required formalities successfully.
The membership of ILAC will also boost the confidence of national laboratories, accredited by PNAC and its users.
