Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi has allocated 100 kanal land, free of cost, for establishing new Urdu University campus at Lahore.
Co-VC Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology Islamabad campus, Dr S.M. Hassan talking to APP here on Sunday said the campus would be established by next year.
He said the project would be followed by establishing two more campuses of the university at the provincial capitals of NWFP and Balochistan.
He informed that two campuses of the university at Karachi are imparting education in the disciplines of science and arts, while the Islamabad campus is focusing on education in technology.
Dr Hassan replying to a query regarding need of an Urdu university in the country said that to popularise education in the country, it is imperative to educate people in their national language.
Quoting the example of Germany, Korea, China, Japan, he said all these countries implemented national language as the medium of education.
Emphasising the need of Urdu he said, "it is easy to shift in English after achieving goal of 80 to 90 percent literacy rate."
He said: "Research, innovation and invention are the basic tools, which will pave the way towards the enlightened future of the nation."
To meet the challenges, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has directed all the universities to double enrolment of students in every department.
"Now only 1,25,000 students are enrolled in universities and it is our goal to raise this number to 300,000 students within three years," he said.
