I refer to letter published in your esteemed newspaper on September 5, 2004 written by Sehar Iqbal, and other letters by Abdul Mateen, Mohammad Akhlaque, Mohammad Iqbal and Idrees Allawala of Karachi published earlier regarding encroachment on Alamgir Road, D.M.C.H.S.
Indeed it is important that encroachment should be removed immediately, wherever it may be, but only emphasis on Alamgir Road smacks of some vested interest of the initiator.
I have investigated the matter and found out the owner of both the Shadi Lawns on Alamgir Road is the man behind this campaign.
These Shadi Lawns are built on residential plots, in flagrant violation of the rules of the Union Council and are the biggest source of congestion, traffic jam, flies/insects and bad odour of leftover food in the area which houses a hospital and a big mosque.
The owner of these Shadi Lawns allegedly only shows 10% of the actual sale in income tax and seldom issues a bill.
I request the concerned authorities to get encroachment removed from everywhere in Karachi, specially from the main shopping areas and markets in Karachi.
