Seed cotton arrivals at ginneries has recorded an increase of 94 percent as compared to corresponding period last year following the picking in three districts of lower Sindh gaining momentum.
According to statistics released by the cotton co-ordinator Sindh Agriculture Extension, seed cotton arrival at Hyderabad districts indicate an increase of 25 percent, Mirpurkhas 49 percent and Sanghar district 147 percent compared to last year.
The cotton crop monitors when contacted told business recorder that crop in central and upper Sindh, now on threshold of maturity might sustain a serious setback in case of late monsoon rains or drop in temperature, but if the climatic conditions remains unchanged the cotton production would be record high this year.
The said pest attack particularly spotted are bollworm, pink bollworm and other sucking pest, but presently the pest attack and incident of CLCV remained in pockets and under economic threshold level. Overall the crop situation is described as satisfactory.
