The essential commodities, fruits and vegetable prices, which are already expensive for the public, showing a significant increase in their current levels ahead of Ramazan, a fresh report prepared after the survey of several markets and shops.
The foremost important thing for the government is to keep close watch over the fluctuations in the prices of food items, and also set up special cells in different parts of the city to take notice of unusual increase in the prices in Ramazan.
The inflation rate is going up since the wheat crisis surfaced, other commodities followed suit, and fuelled the inflation, they observed.
It depicted that despite the fact, the government is taking several measures to arrest the unrealistic increase in the price of essential items, the rates are going up day by day.
As the Ramazan is approaching, the fruits are available in the market but not in a very good shape, saying you can buy if you can.
Such as banana is available at Rs 30 per dozen. inferior types of apples are available at Rs 35-40 per kg. Grapes some days ago were selling between Rs 35-40 now available at Rs 60 per kg.
Watermelon is available at Rs 30 against its previous rate of Rs 20 per kg. Papaya, commonly available at Rs 20, now available, ranging Rs 35-40.
Just few weeks ago, onions were available at Rs 12-14 per kg, but at present, available with the increased rate of Rs 16-18. Tomotoes and potatoes were also following the suit. All types of grains available with a slight increase in their previous levels. Meat and chickens prices also showing gradual rise. When consumers asked about the rise, the sellers stared with surprise and replied Bhai Ramazan is ahead.
It came under observation, in other religions, when festivals come, shopkeepers cut down prices to oblige the consumers.
Consumers, who are already fed up of continued rise in the daily-use items is creating agitation among the poor, its high time to check the price rise. It seems that the city government has failed in checking the price flare-up, and requested the government to intervene in this regard.
Recently, City Nazim Naimattullah Khan said in a meeting that the government is fully aware of the citizens' problems, and trying to solve them, and also urged the government to check sharp rise in the daily commodities.
