The complete discharging of 40,520 tonnes imported wheat on board MV Voc Gallant, which berthed at the Port Qasim here on September 12, was completed on September 19.
The food departments of Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP have lifted quantity of 27,964.244 tonnes of wheat through railway as well as trucks/containers till 0800 hours on September 20, 2004. Sindh lifted 11,840.093 tonnes, Balochistan 7,673.695 tonnes, and NWFP 8,405.456 tonnes. The balance quantity would be lifted within next two to three days.
The whole operation of unloading bagging and reloading of wheat has been done in smooth manner by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) in co-ordination with Minfal, the three provincial governments, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, National Logistics Cell (NLC), Port Qasim Authority, Customs Authorities, etc.
MV "Smarta" carrying 40,400 tonnes of Russian wheat and MV "Voge Voyager" carrying 51,200 tonnes Australian wheat are expected to arrive on or around September 27, 2004 and October 5, 2004 respectively at the Port Qasim.
In addition, seven more vessels carrying 350,000 tonnes of wheat are also expected to arrive at the Port Qasim during next month. This quantity will also be distributed among NWFP, Sindh and Balochistan, said a TCP press release here on Monday.
