City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has started initiating steps to ensure food item supply at lower prices and to control prices of essential commodities.
In this regards the DCO Karachi, Mir Hussain Ali held a meeting here on Monday in which various proposals came under consideration for food supply at fixed prices.
The meeting was attended by officials of Enterprise Department of CDGK and representatives of wholesalers, retailers and consumers.
It was decided to set up review committees comprising concerned government officials, wholesalers, retailers and consumers.
The committee will survey various markets to check the prices and submit its report to DCC in the light of which prices of essential items would be fixed during Ramazan-ul-Mubarak.
It was decided to seek the co-operation of associations of traders and shop keepers in ensuring the availability of essential items on fixed rates.
In order to keep the prices under control, the city government has also initiated steps for appointment of magistrates to take action against profiteers and hoarders.
The DCO assured the wholesalers and retailers that their suggestions for maintaining prices during Ramazan would be welcomed and steps would be taken for redressal of their genuine grievances and problems.
He asked their associations to set up their own teams to keep the prices at stable level.
