The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan has said Britain prime minister Tony Blair's backing of Indian plans to get a permanent berth at the UN had rendered a severe blow to the poor and suppressed nations.
Talking to people from different segments of the society here on Wednesday, he said Blair should first call it (India) to stop massive human rights abuses in Kashmir and other states under its unjust occupation.
Sikandar pointed out a country whose track record was ripe with atrocities and suppression against innocent people, how it could be made a permanent member of a body which was solely formed to protect the rights of the poor and oppressed.
The AJK premier regretted the fact that Britain, an advocate of human rights, was giving way to India to further its nefarious designs.
He made it clear India had been denying the Kashmiris their due right of self-determination which was envisaged by this very body for them. "How can India even ask for that slot, especially when it had denied its very rules and avoided their implementation in letter and spirit," the AJK premier observed.
Sikandar said instead of pushing India's cause the world leaders, including Blair and Bush, should push India into accepting the birth right of the Kashmiris, who had given uncountable lives for having an independent and free state out of Indian aggression.
