Sugar millers while expressing their concern over the government's decision to release 200,000 tons of sugar in the market on October 15, have apprehended that the decision may cause delay in start of crushing season, scheduled to start by November 1.
In a press statement here on Wednesday, Ch. Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, former chairman Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has said that sugar industrialists were shocked over the Economic Co-ordination Committee's decision of releasing 200,000 tons of sugar in the market.
He stated that the government had committed in its meeting with the representatives of sugar industry that it would release only 100,000 tons of sugar ahead of holy month of Ramazan. He expressed the fear that the decision may result into a big crash in the market and sugar industry may go back to square one.
