United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) playing an important role in Pakistan's social development, said FPCCI's zonal chief, Sohail Altaf at a meeting with Haoliang Xu newly-appointed Deputy Resident Representative-UNDP, who visited FPCCI zonal office the other day.
Sohail Altaf appreciated the role of UNDP in the social development process in Pakistan, through promotion of good governance, poverty reduction and environmental protection.
FPCCI zonal chief suggested that UNDP's policies should be designed on practical grounds, so that its results are reflected in the poor segment of the society and asserted that UNDP should focus on specific and major issues and then concentrate on it only.
He was of the opinion that this technique would help UNDP in achieving the objectives of the programme undertaken by UNDP. He applauded proactive role of UNDP in rehabilitation process of Afghanistan. He also briefed the UNDP representative on the role and activities of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
Mian Pervez Aslam, former chairman liaison office Islamabad who was also present on the occasion said that UNDP should enhance human resource development activities to cope with the problem of poverty. He suggested setting up of Poly Technical Institutes in Pakistan to reduce the unemployment and poverty. He said that the policies designed by UNDP should be different for different countries according to their priorities and requirements.
Haoliang Xu said that UNDP is providing financial assistance to the existing organisations according to their genuine needs. Malik Qamar Afzal, Advocate assured the interaction of UNDP with private sector of Pakistan.
