Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri held meetings with his counterparts from Greece and Poland on Tuesday, and discussed matters of bilateral interest.
At his meeting with his Greek counterpart Petros G. Molyviatis, Kasuri asked him to help expedite compensation for the victims of the 'Tasman Spirit' and the damage done to the environment. The 'Tasman Spirit' had sunk off the Karachi coast early this year.
Molyviatis told Kasuri that he will look into the matter and ensure that the damage done to the environment will be addressed at an early date.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views about the regional situation and Turkey's preparations for the start of negotiations to join European Union which Greece supports.
Earlier, Kasuri met his Polish counterpart Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz. Kasuri recalled his visit to Warsaw in February last. The two foreign ministers expressed hope that high level exchanges between the two countries will enhance the existing level of co-operation between Pakistan and Poland.
Kasuri apprised him of his recent visit to India, and reiterated the commitment of Pakistan to a dialogue process with New Delhi aimed at resolving all outstanding issues, including the issue of Kashmir.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views about the regional situation in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Kasuri invited the Polish foreign minister to Pakistan. He accepted the invitation, and the dates for the visit will be finalised through the diplomatic channels.
The executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Antonio Maria Costa, called on Kasuri.
He told Kasuri that UNODC will place new focus on law-enforcement and rehabilitation by providing technical assistance to Pakistan to check any drug-trafficking from Afghanistan.
