The Senate on Thursday adopted a resolution to transform the status of a proposed Upper House committee on Balochistan into a parliamentary committee.
The members of the committee will now be taken from both the houses of the Parliament. It will present its recommendations within 90 days of its formation.
Besides looking into Balochistan issue, the new committee will also deal with inter-provincial harmony.
Leader of the House Wasim Sajjad moved the resolution, which was adopted by the House as no opposition member opposed it.
Wasim Sajjad said that the committee would come into force after a similar resolution in the National Assembly, but did not give the exact date for the formation of the committee.
Former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on August 24 proposed to form a senate committee to look into military operation in Balochistan.
But the government afterwards failed to form the proposed committee, which rages the Baloch nationalist leaders.
