United States Secretary of State Colin Powell on Wednesday said Pakistan was "doing everything it can" to wage war against al Qaeda, the terror groups in Afghanistan and the tribal areas.
He was responding to a reporter's question as to what was discussed in the Bush-Musharraf meeting held earlier Wednesday morning.
Powell said: "President Musharraf had good conversations. He and his military and other security forces have been doing quite a lot in the western art of the country and in the tribal areas along the border."
Asked about Osama bin Laden being caught before November polls, Powell said: "we all would like to find Osama bin Laden tomorrow. But he is pretty good at remaining hidden. And he is, I think to some extent, a problem, but is quite isolated in his ability to move around."
He said: "President Musharraf is fully aware of our desire to see him brought to justice and a number of other people who are in those tribal areas. So we encouraged President Musharraf to continue to go after al Qaeda elements at may be operating in the border area as well, and perhaps even more importantly, Taleban elements that might be operating in the tribal area."
Powell asserted, "what we want to do is create a safe environment inside Afghanistan for the upcoming elections on October 9, and that was a principal point of discussion with President Musharraf."
