The sixth South Asian Telecommunications Regulators' Councils (SATRC) meeting, jointly organised by Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) concluded here on Thursday.
PTA Chairman Major General Shahzada Alam Malik (Retd) presided over the concluding session, while APT Executive Director Amarendra Narayan co-chaired the meeting.
Addressing the delegates, the PTA chairman welcomed the valuable proposals and suggestions given by South Asian telecommunication regulators for sharing the experience and knowledge to improve and enhance telecommunication facilities and information infrastructure in the region for the benefit of the service users.
He expressed satisfaction that the four-day SATRC meeting had unanimously agreed to the recommendations formulated by the regulators for the development of telecom sector.
The meeting unanimously adopted the resolution for chalking out regulatory framework to encourage telecom operators and manufacturers in their respective countries to adopt measures for facilitating senior citizens and disabled people as well as introducing special apparatus and gadgets for such members of the society.
The regulators concurred to the resolution in view of the fact that telecommunications played a pivotal role not only in the economic development of a country, but also social welfare of the society.
The SATRC meeting recommended to prepare papers on licensing for convergence, quality of service, universal access obligation and tariff re-balancing for enhanced co-operation among the SATRC countries in the respective areas.
