Hussain Ahmed Ozgen President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has adjourned the 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the chamber till September 30 due incomplete quorum.
According to the details the RCCI AGM started here in Khalid Waheed auditorium of the chamber with Hussain Ahmed Ozgen in chair. On identification of the quorum of the meeting by some members the RCCI President adjourned the meeting till September 30.
Opposition group in the chamber (Business Group) members led by Javed Kiani, raised slogans against the sitting body and demanded that the AGM should be continued and the office bearers should present their report in the meeting.
Later talking to the journalists after adjourning the AGM, RCCI chief said that the chamber had a rich tradition of smooth and dignified transfer of power and the same would be done on September 30, when newly elected President Najam Rehan and his two Vice Presidents, Jalil Malik and Asad Mashhadi took the rein of power of the chamber.
Expressing his satisfactions over the functioning of the chamber he said that the chamber had played effective role for resolving various tax related issues of business community including GST, Income Tax, Turnover Tax and other.
Ozgen said that the chamber had raised the matters the business community confronting with and submitted suggestions to government in this regard.
"RCCI starts from a shop in 1952 and with the selfless efforts of the founders and leaders it has earned a good name in the business community of Pakistan and served the business community without any discrimination", he added.
He said that RCCI also laid the foundation of Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Islamabad Stock Exchange (ISE) and established dry port in this region.
"Establishment of Small and Medium size Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) office in the premises of the chamber is a ample proof of our commitment with the business community", Ozgen said.
Responding to a question regarding the shouting of the opposition group, he said: "We believe in democratic norms. But the members of the chamber should believe in accordance to their dignity and no hooliganism would be allowed in the chamber".
He said this is not a political field it is a sitting place of business leaders who guide the country's economy.
