Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has set up an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Elite Force at Rescue 15 to control crime ratio in the Federal Capital.
Inspector General Police Islamabad Fayyaz Ahmed Khan Toru stated this while talking to a group of journalists here on Wednesday after inaugurating a Medical Centre at the Rescue 15.
He said ATS was comprised of efficient officers of the Elite Force that would perform duty from 12.00 pm to 6.00 am on public complaints pertaining to threat, bomb hoax, terrorism and any other activity in the municipal limits of Islamabad, the IG said adding that ICT Police had decided to extend Rescue 15 in every sector/sub sector of Islamabad.
The present infrastructure of Rescue 15 was not fulfilling the requirements of citizens as population of the Federal Capital had surpassed 15 million mark, he said adding that to make ICT Police public-friendly force a briefing on community policing would be given to the Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao soon to launch the project formally.
Replying to a question, Toru said financial constraints were hindering revamping Islamabad Police. The Police-Citizen Liaison Committees would be set up at police station level to solve masses' complaints amicably, he said.
Regarding the newly formed medical centre at Rescue 15, IG said that it was a dedicated and sincere effort by the volunteer doctors to wipe out drug, child abuse and domestic violence.
The new SSP Islamabad Liaquat Ali Khan, Additional SP Mehboob Aslam and other senior officials of ICT Police were present on the occasion.
