Inspector General of Police Islamabad Fayyaz Ahmed Khan Toru has formally approved setting up of two B category police stations in Islamabad under the federal government's Rs 2.5 billion ICT police revamping package, sources told Business Recorder here on Friday.
However, the file has been forwarded to Chief Commissioner Islamabad Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry who will issue official notification for new police stations, Shahzad Town and Sabzi Mandi, the sources said.
These two police stations are being established after bifurcation of Secretariat and Industrial Area I-9 police stations.
The primary objective behind the idea was to rapidly bring down growing crime and lawlessness in Islamabad.
The Jamali-led government last year announced major restructuring changes in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police and addition of four new police stations was also part of that plan.
The Interior Ministry had already approved Rs 2.436 billion for the next three years.
Under the police revamping plan, the ICT police will set up four new police stations in Islamabad for distribution of work.
Two more police stations will be established to reduce burden on Golra police, an official said.
As per the plan, now there would be separate SSPs to head security and investigation wing of police in Islamabad. The notification will be issued early next month.
