A three-day international religious congregation began here on Friday afternoon with the sermons of religious scholars. More than 0.1 million people have so far reached Multan and they visited the shrines of spiritual leaders and saw the city. Later they left for the venue of the congregation at "Sehra-e-Madina", some 16km south of Multan.
This congregation would conclude on September 26 (Sunday) at 03.00 pm with final prayers. A big tentage village was established over a vast area.
This congregation is being held under the auspices of "Daawat-i-Islami Pakistan". Faithful from 25 countries, including India, Afghanistan, Kuwait, UAE, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, are also taking part in this congregation.
Pakistan Railways is running 28 special trains plus shuttle trains hourly between Multan and Sehra-i-Madina (Shershah). The PR has also allocated seats in additional bogies of all main trains for the devotees. Every train coming from Karachi or Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan is stopping at Sehra-i-Madina (Shershah) station to facilitate the participants.
The PTCL has also established special office for direct dialling phone, fax and Internet facility.
"We have deployed 800 constables and elite force men at "Sehra-i-Madina", while 5000 jawans would be available to meet any eventuality," DPO Multan Hamid Mukhtar Gondal told newsmen.
