A Jirga of prominent Ulema from North Waziristan Agency has assured its fullest co-operation to the government in its efforts to restore peace and combat the problem of foreign elements.
The Jirga has declared that all the respective Ulema of the area would adopt a joint line of action in this regard.
The delegation of Ulema which, besides Senator Mateen Shah and MNA Maulvi Nek Zaman, also comprised a former MNA Maulvi Deendar, Maulana Sher Muhammad, Maulvi Abdur Rehman, Qari Rehman, Maulana Mansoor Khan and Maulana Noor Ali Khan, called on the NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah at the Governor House here on Friday and assured that the Ulema would extend every co-operation to the government in dealing with the issue of foreign elements as well as to apprehend the suspects.
The Ulema also said that they considered the interest of Pakistan at the highest esteem and they could never support any such action that could bring bad name to the country.
They said that in the given circumstances the Ulema were well aware of their responsibilities and they would never allow any one to create such a situation, which leads to create chaos and anarchy in the agency.
Secretary Security Fata Brigadier Mahmood Shah (Retd) and Political Agent of the agency Dr Fakhre Alam were also present.
The governor, while talking on the occasion, said he was thankful to the delegates for their earnest expressions and said that 'our collective efforts would definitely prove fruitful to overcome the difficulties.'
Referring to the prevailing situation in South Waziristan Agency, the governor said, "it is not in the interests of anyone rather it is highly damaging to the cause of Islam, Pakistan and the tribes as well."
If the tribal people, he added, become united on the point that they would not give shelter to any foreign element in their respective areas then there would be no problem.
The governor said: "If the foreign elements come out of their hideouts, establish their identity and provide guarantee about their good conduct and peaceful living then they would be allowed to stay in the area."
The foreign elements, the governor said, should believe in the assurance of the government of Pakistan that if they surrender themselves then they would not be handed over to any other country.
The governor said: "The situation in North Waziristan Agency is quite satisfactory but we must be cautious and take pre-cautionary measures to meet any eventuality." He also welcomed the co-operation of the Ulema.
