The Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has thrashed out a strategy to build momentum for 'restoration of democracy' and to force President Musharraf to shed military outfit.
ARD secretary-general Zafar Iqbal Jhagra has dispatched a letter to the ARD senators, members of the National and provincial assemblies to gear up for the implementation of strategy, ARD sources told Business Recorder here on Monday.
"The decision to this effect was taken during the Quetta meeting last week," sources explained, adding that lawmakers will be launching a door-to-door campaign during the holy month of Ramazan.
Likewise, these sources added that divisional, district and tehsil chapters of the ARD had also been intimated about the plan and directed to increase level of contacts with the people in their respective areas.
However, ARD leadership reiterated its precondition that they could join hands with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal provided they admitted their 'mistake' in getting the 17th Amendment through the Parliament last year, sources pointed out.
During the holy month of Ramazan, Iftar parties will be organised in all districts and tehsils, wherein people will be invited and apprised of the political and economic situation.
Prior to the holy month starts, ARD member parties' leaders will meet again either in Islamabad or Lahore to review preparations and put up more proposals to make the programme a success.
"The ARD viewpoint and its position on the Parliament's supremacy and the uniform issue will be effectively projected," said ARD parliamentary group secretary Izhar Amrohvi when contacted for comments.
Amrohvi said that the ARD leadership had already taken exiled leaders - Ms Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif - into confidence and they had fully backed the plan.
He asserted, "ARD will go all-out after the Eid, taking along other like-minded groups in and outside the Parliament."
Exiled leaders, he added, agreed that the post-Eid campaign will get impetus from the uncertainty whether or not President Musharraf will quit as the army chief by December 31 as envisaged in the amendment.
Gradually and steadily a momentum will be built to mobilise masses and after Eidul Fitr, the ARD would launch street protests and step up its campaign inside the Parliament in a peaceful manner, sources said.
Top leadership of Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarian and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) believes that November and December were crucial for future of democracy, they noted.
