Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has asked the National Reconstruction Bureau to review its programme in entirety making it relevant to needs of the people.
He told the NRB bureaucracy to strengthen co-ordination and implementation of government decisions and local government laws for effective functioning of the system by "an in-depth review of the system, consultation with the stakeholders and suggest redesigning if required so that the system could deliver the desired results", said an official handout.
Shaukat Aziz carried out a review of the current state of local government system under the 'Devolution Plan', here on Monday.
He said the devolution plan aims at empowerment of the people at local level and creates a sense of ownership of administration and development. Empowerment of elected representatives at different levels not only improves governance but also involves people in the process of development, the Prime Minister added.
During the presentation on performance of Local Government System by NRB Chairman Danyial Aziz, Shaukat Aziz said there has to be clarity of relationships between the District and the Provincial governments.
The government, he said, was looking forward to seamless governance at Union Council, Tehsil, District and Provincial levels, adding that unity of policies at different levels of government was essential for co-ordinated efforts for development and good governance.
