The Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Ports and Shipping to ensure the efficient functioning of the ports in the country.
He was reviewing the goals and targets of Ministry of Ports and Shipping here at a meeting and directed to convert Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim Authority as independent corporations by June 30 next year.
Shaukat Aziz asked the Ministry to set up Industrial Estates in port areas to promote industries.
He said the Ministry should prepare a practical and pragmatic shipping policy and added that the PNSC should be encouraged to induct new ships to cater the increasing demand.
The Prime Minister directed the Ministry to prepare a real estate development plan for both the Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim by December 31. The Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Babar Ghauri were also present on the occasion.
