Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has directed the provincial governments to take adequate measures during the forthcoming holy month of Ramazan to ensure that food items and commodities of daily consumption are conveniently available at reasonable prices to common man.
In his separate letters to all the Governors and Chief Ministers of the provinces, the Prime Minister said during the month of Ramazan, there is need to ensure that food items and commodities of daily consumption are conveniently available at reasonable prices in the market.
The Prime Minister said there is an urgent need to institute mechanism to ensure price stability and adequate supplies of essential items.
He said the federal government has taken necessary measures to ensure availability of essential items at reasonable prices, and now the provincial governments have to play vital role in effective monitoring of the prices and smooth supply of commodities at all levels.
In his letters the Prime Minister said, "I am confident that under your leadership the district Nazims and authorities would do their utmost to ensure adequate supply of essential commodities at affordable prices."
The Prime Minister suggested that Ramazan Bazars on the pattern of Juma and Itwar Bazars should be arranged at multiple places in cities and towns.
He said the price monitoring committees at district level must be set up along with teams for surprise checks and inspections against hoarding attempts to create artificial shortages and price escalation.
The Prime Minister in his letter further said that he would be provided regular updates on action taken to meet these-objectives.
