Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood has stressed need for maintaining standard of cartoons which depicts truth and also send true message to the masses.
While addressing a seminar on 'Cartoon: Importance in Journalism' organised by Press Institute of Pakistan here on Wednesday Imran assured all out support from the government for institutionalisation of this segment of journalism.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shaukat Mahmood (Maxim) said the cartoonists as well as journalists should be bold and discharge their duties with dedication in an impartial manner. Unfortunately, such spirit was lacking among the present working lot, he maintained.
Another cartoonist Javed Iqbal while speaking the seminar said cartoon gives message to millions of people within few seconds.
However, that profession being low-paid could not attract young generation.
Columnist and play writer Munoo Bhai stressed the need for promoting culture of tolerance so that the medium of cartoon could be made more effective.
Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz of Punjab University briefed the participants about the history of cartoon and gave presentation on various definitions on the subject. The cartoon contains all four main objective of journalism ie information, guidance, education and entertainment, he added.
Farooq Qaiser (Uncle Sargam), Qayyum Hijazi (MIDAS), Sameea Jameel Chairperson Mass Communication Department of Kinnaird College, Ejaz Anwar Director Art Gallery NCA also spoke on the occasion.
