The visiting Indian hockey team accompanied by their Pakistani counterparts attended a dinner hosted by the City District Government on behalf of the citizens of Peshawar at a local hotel on Wednesday evening.
NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah was the chief guest on the occasion.
The governor, described the holding of current hockey series a good omen and said not only the people of both the countries would once again be in a position to witness interesting matches between traditional opponents but the two teams would also avail opportunities to further develop their skills and abilities to regain their lost glories.
While stressing the continuity of sport series, the governor was also of the view that such events always prove quite helpful in bridging the communication gap between the people.
He also expressed the confidence that visiting Indian guests on their return would carry with them feelings of goodwill from Pakistanis for their countrymen.
NWFP hockey association chairman Saeed Khan thanked the governor for his keen interest in the promotion of games in both the province and Fata.
Indian hockey team manager Sutaish Sharma said bright future awaits for hockey in Asia stressed the need of encouraging indigenous style of the game to regain its glorious past.
The current series between Pakistan and India, he added, would contribute in this connection.
Pakistani hockey team manager Samiullah said that there was a great improvement in the performance of both the teams and we have set our future targets.
He also thanked the people of the province for demonstrating sportsman spirit in appreciating the game in its true perspective as well as extending due hospitality to both the teams.
Earlier, city nazim Azam Afridi extended heartiest welcome to the guests and said the people of this province have a special respect for the Indian players.
The governor also presented souvenirs to management as well as the players of both the teams.
