Ukraine is raising indicative sunflower seed export prices to $295 per tonne in October from $245 per tonne in September, the Economy Ministry said on Monday.
The ministry gave no reason for the increase while analysts said a jump in the world sunseed market was the main reason for the higher prices.
Ukrainian-origin sunseed prices rose to $292 per tonne ex-farm as of September 27 from $235 as of September 13.
Ukraine sets indicative export prices for several commodities to prevent cheap exports and raise tax revenues.
Ukraine raised sunseed output to a record 4.2 million tonnes in 2003 from 3.3 million tonnes a year ago and analysts said sunseed exports might total about 1 million tonnes in the 2003/04 season. The ex-Soviet state plans to harvest up to 4 million tonnes of sunseed in 2004.
