Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Narcotics Control Division to adopt a comprehensive policy on controlling drug production and its abuse.
The Prime Minister while discussing with the minister and secretary the targets and goals of Narcotics Control Division, said drugs are a menace all over the world and Pakistan has been making successful efforts to combating this menace.
Shaukat Aziz directed the Ministry to co-ordinate with provinces to set up facilities for rehabilitation of addicts to help them lead normal lives. He also urged the provinces to create such facilities.
He said the NGOs and private sector social welfare organisations should be encouraged to set up centers for the rehabilitation of the addicts and to make them useful citizens of the country.
The Prime Minister directed the Ministry to work on a strategy for demand reduction programmes.
