Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar on Tuesday said that Pakistan has asked both United States and Europe that their trade links with Pakistan should not only confine to political and commercial level but they should also take into account the security concerns.
He was talking to PTV in New York on Tuesday. Wrapping up the series of his meetings with US officials and legislators and think tanks in Washington and New York, he said that in this regard a number of proposals had also been submitted to the US administration.
He said that the Council meeting of the Bilateral Trade Agreement, which was the first step to initiate the process of Tifa (Trade and Investment Framework Agreement) between the United States and Pakistan had made a headway.
Tifa was signed during President Pervez Musharraf's visit to the United States in 2003.
Humayun said that both United States and European officials had shown understanding of the ongoing issues of trade and economic co-operation with Pakistan.
