Pakistan Railways (PR) Chairman, Malik Asif Hayat, has stressed the need for paying more attention to goods transportation, besides passenger service in order to increase income of the organisation.
He proposed that a one-window booking service should also be introduced for goods transportation like ticketing of passengers sector.
He stated this while addressing the 82nd Divisional Superintendents Conference here on Friday. It was also attended by the General Manager Pakistan Railways (PR) Aurangzeb Khan and other high ups.
Hayat called upon the officials attached with railway operation to ensure improvement in speed of the trains to take passengers in minimum time to their destination. He said that rail journey should be made more safe and comfortable.
He said that speedy trains running between Lahore-Rawalpindi and Karakoram express were getting popular amongst the passengers. General Manager Aurganzeb Khan told Chairman Railway that a new fast train between Faisalabad and Karachi has been tested on experimental basis.
He said that when this service would be launched it would curtail journey time by two hours between Karachi and Faisalabad. He said that attention was being given to different sectors to improve railway performance so as train speed could be enhanced from 105-km per hour to 120-km per hour on average. He said that redundant rolling stock was being converted in to new parcel wagons, which would also enhance railway income.
