Stocks fell on Friday, pressured by declines in the drug and semiconductor sectors and by slower-than-expected US jobs growth in September.
Drug stocks weighed for the second straight day on the Dow and the Standard & Poor's 500 index on fresh concerns about arthritis drugs.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 39.15 points, or 0.39 percent, at 10,086.25. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 4.38 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,126.27. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was down 16.05 points, or 0.82 percent, at 1,932.47.
