Minister of State for Poultry, Livestock and Agriculture Muhammad Ali Malkani denied presence of Bird Flu virus in Pakistan and said there was no need of concern among general public about the dreaded virus.
"There may be a virus in some Asian Pacific States but not in Pakistan. We are maintaining strict vigil and keeping up with the hygienic standard in poultry sector", minister told reporters after attending concluding session of a two-day international congress here on Saturday.
Earlier, addressing the congress, the minister urged upon the participants to prepare themselves for competition in the world market after the implementation of World Trade Order in 2005.
Malkani assured that government was equally supporting and taking every possible measures to promote the industry to procure protein and ensure balanced diet which was extremely necessary for the people of every age in the society.
Referring to the problems being faced by the poultry industry, the minister assured that government was taking necessary measures to promote the industry. He observed that it is only livestock sector that plays key role in eliminating unemployment in the society as it is the only source of employment of huge rural population in the society.
Later, the minister distributed shields among district livestock officers drawn from various parts of the province. President National Poultry and Livestock Congress Dr Muhammad Arshad presented address of welcome.
