Please refer to the article published in the Business Recorder on September 22, 2004 written by Ms Saima Aziz from Ottawa, Canada regarding graffiti and an culturals heritage. I forward a few lines for your consideration.
The Government of Punjab is trying to make Lahore a more beautiful city and looked into the above matter whereas, in Karachi, the builders mafia is purchasing heritage/protected buildings in the old area, especially in Saddar and M.A. Jinnah Road, converting them into commercial complexes with the help of corrupt officials of the Sindh Government and the KBCA.
In this connection, I have to inform you that the following heritage building, which was declared a heritage property by the Sindh Cultural Heritage Protection Act, is being demolished and reconstruction without the formal approval of the KBCA/Sindh Government.
Recently the heritage building on property No 4 Survey Sheet No RB-7 on M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi was purchased by a famous builder for rupees four and a half crores with the term to demolish the building.
They have demolished the beautiful heritage building and built shops and other commercial premises to earn huge money. This can be seen by everybody on the SITE as the construction work is in progress. Please take some positive steps to save the historical property of the country.
