Pakistan has asked the United States to keep in view the track record on fight against terrorism for cementing trade relations, rather than economic gains or domestic US politics, Commerce Ministry sources said.
"We have asked the US officials to link market access to the security concerns, rather that economic benefits or domestic American politics," they said.
Sources, claiming complete knowledge of the discussions between Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar and US officials, however, refused to disclose the commitments made by Washington, saying that disclosure could affect US elections.
They said that Pakistan has submitted its proposals for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries, but admitted that there was no progress on the issue so far but Pakistan was confident of reasonable development in the days to come.
"We conveyed our proposals to the concerned officials. There is no progress, but we are confident that there would be development in the days to come," sources added.
They said that talks between the countries were under the umbrella of bilateral investment treaty which would help attract US investment.
