Lawyers community observed Black Day on Tuesday in protest against toppling of an elected government of Nawaz Sharif by General Pervez Musharraf on October 12, 1999.
A spokesman of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) said different bar associations hoisted black flags on their respective buildings, while lawyers wore black armbands. The bar associations also held meetings in which resolutions were adopted against General Musharraf for toppling an elected government.
The bar members also took out processions to press General Musharraf to leave the office of president immediately.
The lawyer's community observed the Black Day on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).
The Lahore Bar Association and the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) in its meetings called upon General Pervez Musharraf to doff his uniform.
The LHCBA members took out procession from the bar premises to the main gate of the Lahore High Court.
Representatives of the lawyers, including Hamid Khan, Kazim Khan, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, Ahmed Awais and others, while addressing the lawyers, said that the lawyers community never accepted Pervez Musharraf either in uniform or as president of Pakistan.
They said the lawyers also never accepted Legal Framework Order (LFO) as part of the Constitution and would not accept any amendment in the Constitution, which allows Musharraf to retain his uniform.
They said that the lawyers are struggling for strengthening democracy and revival of the Constitution.
They said the lawyers would not accept dictatorship in any shape and continue their struggle for the revival of real democracy in the country.
They said that the Parliament members of opposition must resign if the government passes a bill allowing Musharraf to retain his uniform.
They called upon the government to withdraw the cases registered against the members of Nankana Bar Association.
