Without ensuring provision of water to agriculturists as per their requirements and cheaper electricity to industry, national products could not compete with the products of neighbouring and developed countries.
There left little time in implementation of WTO, but neither enough water is available for agriculture, nor cheaper electricity to industry.
These views were expressed by the Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front (Piaf) vice-chairman Mubashar Sheikh in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
He said that Pakistan signed WTO agreement in 1995 and its implementation would start from January 2005. Ten years period between signing and implementation was enough for making necessary preparations for it, he said and claimed that manufacturers were trying their best according to their resources to improve quality.
Nevertheless, he said that improvement of quality and reduction in input cost was not possible without provision of cheaper electricity, best infrastructure facilities and vocational training in line with modern day requirements.
He said that Kalabagh dam project could not be implemented due to political reasons despite spending billion of rupees. He called upon Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi to take steps for provision of inexpensive electricity to industry and overcoming water shortage.
