Over 20,000 ISO standards have been adopted voluntarily by Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA). Presently only 46 items have to conform to Pakistan Standards and require the PSQCA approval for marketing.
The products include Edible Oils, Banaspati Ghee, Biscuits, Bottled Drinking Water and some other consumer items like Bulbs, Tube Lights, and Electric Cables etc. The PSQCA inspectors monitor the quality by periodic record verifications of the manufacturing units and by collection of random samples from the market.
2. The PSQCA is a self-financed public sector statutory organisation that obviously has to play an important role to support economic and social development of the country. To curb sub-standard products, it is mandated to monitor quality of manufactured items, particularly in view of the WTO obligations that warrant concerted efforts to facilitate and expand global trade.
3. In line with its Charter, the PSQCA has in a short span of its existence, made concerted efforts to create quality awareness amongst the people to promote demand for quality products. For this, the PSQCA scientists, engineers, field and support staff deserve due recognition.
I hope that the PSQCA team would keep up its good work in future as well to serve the peoples of Pakistan.
