Russian companies will invest about $2 billion in energy and other projects in Tajikistan in the next several years, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday.
Tajikistan President Emomali Rakhmonov said Russia's top aluminium producer RUSAL would invest $560 million in the construction of a hydropower station in the south of Tajikistan.
"An agreement on the construction of the Rogunskaya GES will be financed by Russia's company Russky Aluminium," Rakhmonov told a news conference after he met Putin, who is on a short visit to Tajikistan after a trip to China. RUSAL, whose production consumes much electricity, will build a new aluminium smelter in the south of Tajikistan.
