Pakistan received an amount of $ 963.15 million as expatriates' remittances during the first quarter of the current fiscal year from July to September 2004 showing an increase of $ 16.61 million, or 6.46 percent, over $ 906.46 million of the same period last year.
According to State Bank of Pakistan here on Saturday, $ 963.15 million amount included 1.62 million dollars received through encashment and profit earned on foreign exchange bearer certificates (FEBCs) and foreign currency bearer certificates (FCBCs).
The monthly average of remittances for the period of July to September 2004 was 327.72 million dollars as compared to 302.16 million during the same period of the last fiscal year which showed an increase of 25.56 million dollars or 8.46 percent.
The inflow of remittances into Pakistan during September:2004 from United States, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman. Qatar, Bahrain, Germany, Canada, Norway and Japan amounted, respectively, to 96.66 million dollars, 50.67 million dollars, 47.09 million dollars, 26.33 million dollars, 15.67 million dollars, 8.6 million dollars, 6.05 million dollars, 7.94 million dollars 5.37 million dollars, 3.54 million dollars, 1.14 million dollars and 0.96 million dollars, besides 40.07 million dollars received from seven other countries.
