The first ship carrying 30,000 metric tons of imported urea from China will arrive at Port Qasim in the first week of November 2004. This was stated by the Chairman Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) Syed Masood Alam Rizvi here on Saturday. "The first shipment is reaching the port on November 5, while the entire quantity of imported urea will reach the country by November 25 to 26, 2004," he observed.
He said that TCP has awarded a contract to four companies, one of them is Chinese while the others belong to Ukraine and Russia to supply 170,000 metric tons of urea.
Rizvi said that Chinese urea is being imported at $ 287 per metric ton while the rest at $ 297 per metric ton. He said that Chinese price was the lowest but they have a limited quantity available with them due to high demand.
It may be noted that the government has asked TCP to import 250,000 metric tons of urea to avoid any shortage during forthcoming rabi season.
TCP had floated an international tender on September 30, 2004 for the purchase of 150,000 metric tons of urea while the bidding was held on October 6, 2004.
