Punjab government under its Rawalpindi Urban Area Development Project Phase II would construct five underpasses here on Mall Road with the cost of Rs 520 million, besides widening the road from Race Course to Katcheri Chowk.
According to details, the government has decided to make sure the smooth sailing of the traffic on busy Peshawar road and has decided to widen the Mall road from Race Course to Katcheri Chowk and construct five underpasses on this road to help passers-by to cross road safely.
The project would be executed jointly by National Highway Authority (NHA) and National Logistics Cell (NLC).
The work on widening project of the Mall road has been started and the land was acquired to complete this project within the stipulated time. Remodelling of the Katcheri Chowk is also a part of the project.
NHA in its survey stated that more than 100,000 vehicles are passing on this busy road and due to heavy rush and plenty of traffic signals a vehicle took more than 40 minutes to pass this eight-kilometer long road.
After expansion of the road and remodelling of the Katcheri Chowk it will be easy for the motorists to cross this road in a very short span of time.
Three out of five underpasses to be constructed at Peshawar Road are in the final stage, which include Kohinoor Mills, Chohar Chaki and Lane 4, while two commercial underpasses would be constructed at Chohar Chowk and Saddar having 25 and 40 shops in each underpass.
