The domestic vendor industry, making parts for automobile industry, contributed Rs 8 billion to revenue in 2003-04 besides providing employment to 160,500 people. The vending industry wants full protection. The industry's investment was Rs 72 billion and it contributed 195 million dollars to the national exchequer through exports in 2003-04.
The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) has apprised the government that export of auto parts had increased to Rs 637 million in 2003-04 from Rs 328 million in 2002-03.
The government wants the increase in car production so that protection is satisfactorily provided to the vending industry.
