Moroccan grains agency ONICL has purchased around 145,000 tonnes of European Union origin soft wheat in a special import quota tender which closed on October 14, European traders said on Tuesday.
The wheat was believed to be mostly French, with the balance made up of German, Hungarian and Polish grain, traders said.
It was not a normal commercial tender, but held by the ONICL to use up import quotas for EU origin wheat.
Moroccan private importers bid to sell ONICL the wheat for delivery between October 14 and December 31. As a result, no prices were given.
Traders said some cargoes were already loaded.
The 150,000 tonnes was part of a 400,000-tonne quota set for this year's EU-origin imports under a farm deal signed in 2003.
