Heavy downpour in NWFP northern region of Chitral again on Monday night reportedly killed at least eight people. The unexpected rain and snowfall in Chitral played havoc with the mountainous region with heavy losses of life and property, a private TV channel reported.
Rains and snowfall had particularly damaged crops and orchards in the area. Power supply had been suspended for last several days in Chitral while mudslides disconnected land link with many parts of the region, the report added.
Thousands of cattle were killed by harsh weather and 70 percent of the wheat crop was destroyed, Chitral Nazim Shahzada Mohyuddin said.
Some road links, however, were reopened with the help of local residents, he added.
